Highway Department

The Town of Ellisburg is situated in southern Jefferson County and is made up of 275.5 lane miles. The highway department is responsible for the operation and maintenance of town, county and state highways within their jurisdiction. The department employs 8 full time positions as well as several additional part time employees seasonally.

Maintenance operations performed by the highway department include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Building and maintaining roads
  • Snow plowing and salt/sand application
  • Roadside tree and brush cutting
  • Mowing roadsides as well as Town cemeteries
  • Roadside ditching
  • Trash/litter removal from roadsides
  • Highway equipment maintenance and repair
  • Maintaining bridges and culverts to keep water flowing freely

Transfer Station

The Town of Ellisburg Transfer Station is located at 14925 County Route 89, Mannsville, NY 13661.

Must be a resident of the Town of Ellisburg (including Ellisburg, Belleville, Mannsville, Pierrepont Manor and Woodville).

Water Department

The Town of Ellisburg also has a Water Department. This is made up of 3 different districts within the township.

  • District #1 — Pierrepont Manor
  • District #2 — Belleville
  • District #3 — Ellisburg

Town employees can be trained and licensed for this position. The water district technicians are responsible for daily testing and reports to comply with the NYS DOH. Municipal water is monitored 24/7 and any problems that arise are handled immediately.
